According to researchers at the University of California, “music affects cognitive function in spatial-temporal reasoning.” Music can positively affect many areas of the brain. Children who play an instrument are better at things such as memory recall, mathematics, and more! Playing an instrument organizes the right side of the cerebral cortex, which is responsible for higher functions. For example, I have been playing the piano since the age of 4. My memory recall as a child was better than most children. My parents noticed that my focus was sharp even as a young child. Some of this could be attributed to the playing of the piano.

Playing an instrument also helps reduce stress, improve mood, comfort, and more. Music allows children to communicate and express their emotions. This helps most children with their emotional well-being. Overall, music helps with cognitive development, emotional well-being, and creative expression.
